What sort of medication is Oxycodone?
Oxycodone belongs to narcotic
pain relievers (opioids), similar to morphine. Analgetic
properties of Oxycodone are observed due to its ability to
bind to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord. It has
a rather high potential for abuse, being able to cause a
moderate physical, or a high psychological dependence if
misused. In pure form, Oxycodone is available under the brand
name OxyContin. However, the combination of Oxycodone and
Acetaminophen (such as brand
name Percocet) is usually administered
to manage moderate to severe pain.
In the USA, Oxycodone
(OxyContin) and Percocet are Schedule II controlled substances,
available under prescription only.
Among pills manufactured by
Watson Pharmaceuticals, we find different combinations of
Oxycodone and Acetaminophen, which can be listed as Watson generic
versions for Percocet, Endocet,
Tylox, etc.
In Watson Acetaminophen/Oxycodone
combinations, Oxycodone is found in dosages of:
5mg (in Watson 749
pills)
7.5mg (in Watson 824
and Watson 933 pills) and
10mg (in Watson 825
and Watson 932 pills).
