What sort of medication is Sucralfate?
Sucralfate is an anti-ulcer
medication. As a result of its reaction with hydrochloric acid
in the stomach, paste-like matter is formed which serves as
an acid buffer, preventing further damage from acid. These
effects help to heal active duodenal ulcers. Sucralfate is
also used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and
stress ulcers.
Sucralfate is available under
the brand name Carafate in the USA,
and under the brand name Sulcrate
in Canada.
