What sort of medication is Sulcrate?
Sulcrate is an anti-ulcer
medication. As a result of its reaction with hydrochloric acid
in the stomach, paste-like matter is formed which serves as
an acid buffer, preventing further damage from acid. These
effects help to heal active duodenal ulcers. Sulcrate is
also used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and
stress ulcers. In pill form, the medication is administered in
1g (1000mg) strength. The effects of a single dose usually last
about 6 to 8 hours.
Brand name Sulcrate is marketed
in Canada, while in the USA the medication is mostly available
under the brand name Carafate.
Watson Pharmaceuticals
